GUIDELINES TO APPLICANTS FOR MEMBERSHIP OF UGANDA INSTITUTION OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS

  • Subject to the provisions of the UIPE Constitution in respect of qualifications and requirements for admission or transfer to any class of membership of the Institution, applicants shall be required to have the following qualifications:
    A degree, diploma or licence from a University or School of Engineering recognised by Council.

  • Applications for Corporate Membership (Classes of Member & Fellow) require at least two (2) years training as a pupil engineer after graduation, under the supervision of a Registered Engineer; and a further two (2) years of working experience in a position or positions of responsibility, again under the supervision of a Registered Engineer.

  • During their post pupilage working experience periods, applicants are expected to have gained experience in the following areas of projects execution:

    • Project design

    • Documentation

    • Construction/installation


    • Operation and maintenance

  • Candidates will be required to submit a 2000 word typed Career Report on their training and responsible experience. They will further be required to submit 4000 word typed Technical Report on a particular project or projects, the candidate has played a major role. Guidance notes for the preparation of reports are attached in Appendix A

  • Candidates are required to submit the report in duplicate
    3. Members of Council and members of the Membership, Education, and Training (MET) Committee shall not propose or support applications for membership of the Institution in any class.

  • Candidates may be required to appear for interview.

  • It is mandatory for the proposers to fill Appendix B.

Please print the name of the current firm or organisation and the period of employment.  The organisation tree should show the chain of command in your present post and indicate your position in relation to your immediate superior, equivalent and immediate subordinate staff.  Against each post please indicate the name and qualifications of the current holder including, where appropriate, the grade of membership of the Institution.  Your position should be marked by an arrow and the number of persons under your control


9. OBLIGATION AND CERTIFICATION

I, the undersigned, agree that in the event of my admission to membership in any class in the Uganda Institution of Professional Engineers, I will be governed by the constitution and bye-laws of the constitution, as they now are, or as they may hereafter be altered, and that I will advance the objectives of the Institution as far as shall be in my power, provided that whenever I shall signify in writing to the Honorary Secretary that I am desirous of withdrawing.  I shall, after the payment of any arrears which may be due by the period, be free from this obligation.  I certify that the statements given above are correct.
