1. WHO QUALIFIES TO APPLY FOR MEMBERSHIP TO UIPE?
The qualifications to apply to Membership to UIPE are as follows:
A: FELLOWS
a)That one who has attained the age of 33 years on the date
of his or her application for election or transfer, and either.
b) i) That one who has been a member of the Institution for
a period of at least 3 years
provided that in the case of a candidate who has possessed
for 3 years the qualifications for election to membership
the Council may waive the stipulation as to his or her having
been a member, and
ii) has held a position of such responsibility for at least
five years in the Science or practice of Engineering as in
the opinion of the Council justifies his or her election.
c) or that he or her:
i) has such knowledge of the Science or practice of Engineering
and has acquired such eminence in his or her profession that
his or her admission as a fellow would conduce to the interest
of the Institution; and
ii) is engaged in the Science or practice of Engineering.
B: MEMBERS
a)That one should be at least 25 years of age, and
b) either:
i) has passed or been exempted from the Corporate membership
examinations of an engineering Institution, Institute or Society
approved for the purpose by the Council or.
ii) has obtained a degree or diploma of a University of school
of engineering approved for the purpose by the Council
c) has had at least two years adequate practical training
as an engineer and additionally has had at least two years
suitable experience in a position involving responsibility
as an engineer, provided that the Council may , at their discretion,
accept any additional period in a position of responsibility
as an engineer in excess of two years in substitution for
two years practical training , and has attended and passed
a professional interview as prescribed by the Council.
C: GRADUATE MEMBERS
a) That one who has at least 21 years of age;
b) holds one of the educational qualifications prescribed;
and
c) intends in due time to seek Corporate membership and that
the work upon which he is engaged is conducive to this end.
No person shall remain as Graduate Member after 31st December
in the year in which he attains 40 years of age.
D: TECHNOLOGIST MEMBERS
a) That one who has at least 23 years of age
b) is a holder of a Higher Diploma in Engineering
c) has at least 3 years of working experience in a position
related to engineering.
Is not qualified for admission as a Corporate Member.
E: TECHNICIAN MEMBERS
a)That one who has at least 21 years of age; and
b) is a holder of an Ordinary Diploma in Engineering
c) has at least 3 years of working experience in a position
related to engineering.
Is not qualified for admission as a Corporate Member.
F: STUDENTS
a)That one who is neither under 18 years of age nor, over
30 years of age;
b) is of good education;
c) is receiving adequate instruction in the theory of engineering;
and
d) has received or is receiving, or intends to receive adequate
practical training as an engineer.
No person shall remain a student after 31st December in the
year in which he has attained 35 years of age.

3. WHAT BENEFITS DO I GET FROM MEMBERSHIP OF UIPE?
The benefits of membership include:
i) Receipt of Publications – Journals and Newsletter.
ii) Professional Membership, which is a legal requirement
for registration (i.e. allows you to practice engineering
legally).
iii) Continuing Professional Development Activities e.g. Seminars/Workshops
iv) International Conferences, Workshops and Seminars.
4. WHAT ARE THE OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERS OF UIPE?
The Members’ obligations include payment of Annual Subscription
dues and professional conduct as shown in the Code of Ethics
(click here).
5. WHERE IS THE SECRETARIAT
OF UIPE LOCATED?
Our Secretariat is located at Plot 1, Gloucester Avenue, Kyambogo
within the compound of Public Works Training Centre. It is
housed in the Management Support Unit Building.
6. HOW MANY MEMBERS DOES UIPE HAVE?
The Institution has 595 Members.
7. HOW MANY DIVISIONS DOES UIPE?
The Institution has three Divisions namely Civil Engineering,
Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
8. HOW MANY BRANCHES DOES UIPE HAVE?
The Institution has three Branches namely Fort Portal, Jinja
and Kampala Branches.
9. HOW DO I CONTRIBUTE ARTICLES TO THE ENGINEER’S
JOURNAL, THE NEWSLETTER
